This is the new flag to go with this re-alignment of the EU, the 25 hexagons represent the 25 states that will merge to create the new union (the accession states; Romania and Bulgaria are not included as they had not joined when this project was conceived). The colours represent a continuity with the former incarnation of the EU. Historically the diamond has conotations of constancy, wisdom, probity, and equity.
